Bengal Polls 2021:According to Amit Shah, BJP will bring back ‘Sonar Bangla'; Fields 4 MPs

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, pledged on Sunday that if the BJP wins power in West Bengal, it would bring "real reform" and turn the state back into "Sonar Bangla" (Golden Bengal). A colourful roadshow in support of BJP candidates contesting the West Bengal assembly election was held by a senior BJP leader in Kharagpur, Paschim Medinipur district.

In addition to Dasgupta, three other BJP members of parliament will run in the Bengal elections, including Union Minister and Asansol MP Babul Supriyo, who will face TMC heavyweight and state minister Aroop Biswas in the Tollygunge constituency in Kolkata. The BJP's selection of candidates like Swapan Dasgupta and Ashok Lahiri reflects an effort by the party to cater to more cosmopolitan and educated Bengali voters who may not be drawn to the party's hard Hindutva image.
