Bengal logs record recovery of 4,396 COVID patients

(Eds: Updating with details) Kolkata, Nov 9 (PTI) West Bengal on Monday reported the highest single-day recovery of 4,396 COVID-19 patients, taking the total number of cured people to 3,67,850, the health department said in a bulletin.

The discharge rate is now 89.25 per cent.

The death toll rose to 7,350 after 56 more people succumbed to the disease.

The bulletin said that 3,907 people tested positive for the infection during the day, pushing the tally to 4,09,221.

The number of active cases now is 34,021.

North 24 Parganas registered 14 fresh deaths followed Kolkata at 13, the bulletin said. The remaining casualties were reported from several other districts.

Of the 56 fresh fatalities, 43 were primarily due to comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.

The 3,907 new positive cases included 861 from Kolkata and 852 from North 24 Parganas district.

In the last 24 hours, 44,346 samples were tested for coronavirus in the state, taking the total number of such tests to 49,59,087. PTI SCH NN NN
