Bengal logs highest one-day discharge of 3,889 COVID patients

(Eds: Adds details) Kolkata, Oct 26 (PTI) West Bengal on Monday reported the highest single-day discharge of 3,889 COVID-19 patients, taking the total number of recovered people to 3,10,086, the health department said in a bulletin.

The discharge rate now is 87.64 per cent.

The coronavirus tally in the state rose to 3,53,822 after 4,121 people tested positive for the disease, while 59 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 6,546, it said.

The number of active cases currently is 37,190.

The 4,121 new cases included 889 from North 24 Parganas district, 892 from Kolkata, 267 from South 24 Parganas and 216 from Howrah, the bulletin said.

Of the fresh fatalities, 14 were registered in Kolkata and 15 in North 24 Praganas. The remaining other deaths were reported from various other districts.

In the last 24 hours, 44,724 samples were tested for COVID-19 in West Bengal, taking the total number of such tests to 43,40,570, the bulletin added. PTI PNT NN NN
