(Eds: Adds details) Kolkata, Oct 7 (PTI) West Bengal's COVID-19 tally mounted to 2,80,504 after the highest single-day spike of 3,455 new infections was reported on Wednesday, the health department said in a bulletin.
The death toll in the state rose to 5,376 with 58 more fatalities.
The discharge rate reached 87.97 per cent after 3,024 recoveries were registered across the state, the bulletin said.
Till Wednesday, at least 2,46,767 people have been cured of coronavirus in the state, it said.
The number of active cases stood at 28,361.
Of the fresh fatalities, Kolkata accounted for 18, followed by North 24 Parganas district (12) and South 24 Parganas (11), the bulletin said.
The remaining 17 deaths were registered in eight other districts.
Out of the 58 casualties, eight were due to the comorbidities where COVID-19 was incidental.
The 3,455 new infections included 758 from Kolkata, 728 from North 24 Parganas and 219 from South 24 Parganas, the bulletin said.
Since Tuesday, 42,651 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the state, taking the total number of such tests to 35,23,161, it said. PTI SCH NN NN
