UFC fighter Beneil Dariush used one of the biggest wins of his career to demand a car be delivered, and it appears to have paid off.
The lightweight defeated Tony Ferguson by unanimous decision at UFC 262 on Saturday, then proceeded to use his post-fight interviews to repeatedly call out Tesla CEO Elon Musk over a car that had apparently not been delivered.
First, he said this while still in the Octagon:
“Elon Musk, where's my wife’s car, bro? I've been waiting six months. I've had the baby, I need a good car. I've got to protect my daughter. Let's go Elon, get me my car.”
Then he gave a little more backstory in a subsequent news conference:
“December, I ordered my car. Bro, I ordered the safest car, they told me. It’s the best car for my pregnant wife and I’m still waiting. Elon, bro, what’s the deal man? You told me March, we’re coming up on June. I want my car. Come on, bud. Big fan, but this is disrespect.”
Less than 12 hours later, Dariush got a response on Twitter from the billionaire, who apologized and promised the car would be delivered soon.
It only took two days for Musk to come through, as Dariush's manager posted on Twitter that Tesla had provided what appears to be a Model Y until his order is ready:
Dariush isn't alone among Tesla buyers waiting extensive amounts of time for their cars, he's just the one who had the platform of UFC 262 to prod Musk.
Electrek reports that the recently refreshed Model X, which Dariush apparently ordered, had encountered delays due to production issues on Tesla's end. Musk reportedly said that the company won't reach volume Model X production until next quarter, so Dariush might be using that Model Y for a few months.
