Vijay Mallya, liquor baron and owner of the now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines, was arrested by Scotland Yard in London on Tuesday evening on an extradition warrant. However, the 61-year-old was granted bail by the Westminster Magistrates’ Court roughly three hours after his arrest. Ever since Mallya’s escape to the United Kingdom almost a year ago, Indian law enforcement agencies have been trying to nab him.
Anil Sinha, former CBI director, to PTIIt is a success of law enforcement agencies. I am confident that efforts to bring him back will fructify.
As is customary, social media went into overdrive following the news of Mallya’s arrest. For his part, the “king of good times” took to Twitter, shrugging off the news and reactions to his arrest as “usual Indian media hype”.
