Calcutta: McDowell Mohun Bagan will be looking to start afresh when they face Air India in a third round match of the I-League, at the Balewadi Stadium, in Pune on Sunday.
Bagan have had one of the worst starts to their season. Under coach Santosh Kashyap, they made an early exit in the Federation Cup and they also went on to lose both their matches in the I-League.
Despite having a high-profile team and being considered as one of the favourites, they failed to do justice to their top billing. Due to the poor results, Bagan axed Kashyap and appointed Karim Bencharifa. But Bencharifa will only be able to join the squad mid-November. The onus will now be on the players to stage a comeback.
Tolgay Ozbey, who was transferred from East Bengal to Mohun Bagan earlier this season, is yet to click alongside Nigerian Odafe Okolie, who is yet to make a mark.
If Bagan has to win, the duo will have to rise up to the occasion. Air India, who are yet to win to win a match in the League, want to play positively for the match against Bagan. "We have been motivating the players. We are also trying to keep our approach positive," said coach Godfrey Pereira.
In another match, Salgaocar will be looking to clinch their first win when they take on Pailan Arrows in a third round match at the Nehru Stadium, Margao.
