Bachmann says Hurricane Irene was 'God's warning message to DC lawmakers'

Washington, Aug 30 (ANI): Minnesotan Congresswoman Michele Bachmann has claimed that Hurricane Irene and last week's earthquake in eastern United States was God's way of sending a message to lawmakers in Washington.

She termed the hurricane, which killed at least 32 people and caused billions of pounds of damage, and the 5.8 earthquake, as signs of God's anger at government policies.

"Washington, DC, you'd think by now they'd get the message. An earthquake, a hurricane. Are you listening?," the Daily Mail quoted Bachmann, as saying.

"The American people have done everything they can, and now it's time for an act of God and we're getting it," she told citizens in Poinciana.

"I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians," she added.

Responding to a criticism of the statement, a spokesperson for the Republican presidential candidate said that 'she was obviously saying it in jest.' (ANI)
