Auto Expo’s Bollywood connection

Over the years, many bikes and cars have become an integral part of pop culture courtesy their appearance in Bollywood movies. A few such cars and bikes are at a special pavilion at the Auto Expo 2016

The “Bobby” bike

Rajdoot’s GTS is forever known as the “Bobby” since Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia romanced on it in the 1973 hit film Bobby. The bike caught the fancy of the youth of the 70s and became popular after it was used in the movie. 

The Sholay “bromance”

Sholay is arguably the most iconic Hindi film of all-time. The bike on which Amitabh Bachchan and Dharamendra rode in the movie inspired many a fans to carry out their “bromance”. A replica of the the 350-cc Ariel bike is on display at the Auto Expo 2016

Deewar’s VW connection

The 1975 film Deewar established Amitabh Bachchan as the “angry young man” of Hindi cinema. Bachchan who played the character of Vijay Verma drove a Volkswagen T2 Kombi van in the movie. A similar model of the van is being showcased at the Bollywood pavilion. 

Vroom and Dhoom

Before the 2004 movie Dhoom, super bikes weren’t really a part of Hindi cinema. But Dhoom changed all that. John Abraham rode this Suzuki Hayabusa and super bikes became a part of pop culture
