ASSOCHAM, an industry body, recently urged the Centre and the protesting farmers to resolve the blockade over the recently introduced farm laws. Assocham further pointed out that the protests by the farmers are inflicting a heavy blow to the economies of fours states — Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The industry further stated that all these states have combined economies of around Rs 18 lakh crore. Reacting to the claims made by Assocham, the farmers' say that even they are not happy with the protests but have no other option to convince the Centre to take back the farm laws. While Centre claims that the new farm laws will give freedom to farmers to sell their produce to whoever they want. farmers suggest that these laws will cripple the farmers of the country.
