Assam polls 2021: EVMs discovered inside BJP MLA's vehicle; Congress asks EC to take swift action

During the second phase of Assembly elections in Assam, the Congress accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of stealing electronic voting machines and manipulating votes in its favor. On Thursday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi posted a video on Twitter purporting to show BJP MLA Krishnendu Paul transporting EVMs in his vehicle. EVMs can be seen inside a white jeep in the 45-second video. The vehicle belongs to Paul, according to a man who is not in the picture. The widely circulated video was first tweeted by senior Assam-based journalist Atanu Bhuyan, who reported that the incident had made the "situation tense in Patharkandi." The BJP has yet to respond to the allegations, as has the Election Commission. The alleged malpractice was condemned by Gandhi, who said it was past time for the Election Commission to act decisively on rigging charges against the BJP. She also called for a "serious re-evaluation" of all national parties' use of electronic voting machines.
