Guwahati, Nov. 18: Assam A today rode a double century by Sibsankar Roy and a century by skipper Kunal Saikia to pile up a first innings total of 515 before declaring the innings at nine down on the second day of their CK Nayudu Trophy under-25 plate group B league match against hosts Chhattisgarh A at International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.

Chhattisgarh were 35 for no loss at stumps when play was called off for the day this afternoon.

Resuming at overnight 253 for three, Roy and Saikia rallied on with blistering knocks almost throughout the first two sessions today to help the visitors put up the challenging total.

Roy scored 212 while wicketkeeper-batsman Saikia put up 134 on the board.

Assam yesterday elected to bat first and lost opener Rishav Das for an individual score of only 10.

However, Roy and Rahul Hazarika (91, 4x13, 6x3) consolidated the innings before Saikia stepped in at the dismissal of Sunil Ranjan Gogoi for nought. For the home side, Jagjot Gill, Atul Sharma and Vikrant Rajput were the successful bowlers.

School chess: The third day of the 2nd GTC School Chess Championship, under way at Gauhati Town Club here, saw an intense fight on the top boards today. In the seventh round, Nitish Das was defeated by better rated Debanga Kaushik Bhattacharyya on the top table while on the second board, Shivangini Bhattacharyya lost to Simran Ahmed.

Debanga and Simran lead the tournament with six points each followed by a group of six players ' Nitish Das, Ashish Kumar, Lakshyadeep Malakar, Amlan Mahanta, Suraj Dey and Mohit Jain ' on 5.5 points each while a group of seven players ' Shivangini Bhattacharyya, Bishal Patowary, Manoj Baishya, Abhilekh Mahanta, Priyam Thakuria, Shivesh Poddar and Neeraj Thakuria -- were on 5 points each in the third slot.
