Arundhati Roy issues statement on the maoist book row; calls govt's move narrow, shallow &insecure

A massive controversy was stirred after the Tamil Nadu government removed the 'Walking with Comrades' textbook from the syllabus. The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli replaced Roy’s book on the syllabus with M. Krishnan’s My Native Land: Essays on Nature. It was removed when a student body of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) registered complaints against the book.
Arundhati Roy reacting to the incident stated that "I am more happy than sad because I had no idea that my book was in the curriculum."
She also lashed out at the state government and called its move "narrow, shallow and insecure".
