Army major killed in IED blast near LoC was due to marry next month
Army Major Chitresh Singh Bisht, who lost his life while defusing a land mine along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on February 17, was due to get married next month.
Major Chitresh Singh Bisht's father was reportedly preparing for the marriage of his son scheduled for March 7 when he found out about his son's death.
Major Bisht (31) belonged to Dehradun in Uttarakhand. His father is a retired police officer.
Major Chitresh Singh Bisht was leading a bomb disposal squad team for sanitisation when mines were detected on the track in Naushera sector around 3 pm, a defence spokesman said.
He said the team defused one of the mines successfully but while neutralising another mine, the device got activated and the officer suffered grievous injuries and attained martyrdom.
Another soldier was injured in the explosion.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat paid tribute to the Major Chitresh Singh Bisht in a tweet and extended condolences to the family.
The news of the major's death comes amidst national outrage over the February 14 Pulwama attack led by Jaish-e-Mohammad that killed at least 40 Central Police Reserve Force jawans.
