Malaysia head coach Tan Cheng Hoe has hailed his charges following their semi-final AFF Championship win against defending champions and favourites Thailand on Wednesday.
Speaking in the post match press conference, he remarked that the visitors were able to stick to the gameplan, even when playing away.
"They did very well to equalise in the first half, while in the second they retained their composure; keeping the ball while being wary of the Thais' counter attacks.
"They maintained tactical discipline, and were able to produce an amazing result. We will probably remember it forever," he said.
Tan also praised right back Syahmi Safari, who nearly turned from hero to zero in the encounter. Syahmi struck a stunner from outside the box to level the scoreline in the first half, his first ever international goal, but conceded a penalty from a handball and was sent off in the dying moments of the game, when the scoreline stood at 2-2.
Luckily for him and the Harimau Malaya, Thailand star Adisak Kraisorn sent his spot kick over the crossbar, when a goal would have sent them through to the final instead.
"He has been improving game by game, and I believe he will be a star for Malaysia in the future. With discipline and the right attitude in training, he is next in line," noted the former Kedah boss.
Malaysia's first leg final match will be on December 11, Tuesday at Bukit Jalil, against the winner of the other semi-final tie, between Vietnam and Philippines.
