Wikki Tourists head coach, Aliyu Zubairu has stated that the top target of his team ahead of their rescheduled league tie against Lobi Stars on Thursday is to ensure that they are out of the relegation zone at the end of the encounter fixed for the Pantami Stadium, Gombe.
The Giant Elephant slipped to the drop zone last weekend after they were thrashed 2-0 by Bendel Insurance at the UNIBEN Sports Complex, Benin and Zubairu noted that it was some careless mistakes from his team that cost them the game against the returnee premier league side.
The gaffer has however assured that the errors made in Benin have been corrected ahead of the crucial game against the league’s reigning champions.
Zubairu asserted that he has warned his boys against playing to the gallery against an experienced side like Lobi Stars and that he will be thrilled to see Wikki Tourists among the top five at the end of the delicate home fixture.
“We do not expect any give away at this point of the season when all the teams are either fighting to remain in the top-flight or to qualify for the season-ending playoffs,” Zubairu told GOAL.
“I have warned my players that they must play to their optimum because we are in dire need of the three points to ensure that we are out of the relegation zone before the next round of matches this weekend. Lobi Stars are the defending champions of the league and we know them very well.
“We are ready to fight for the three points because we know that we must redouble our efforts to ensure that we end up with the maximum points. It is not going to be a stroll in the park but I know that my players know what is at stake.”
Wikki Tourists are presently in the ninth spot in the NPFL Group A with 15 points from 12 games but they could be in the top five at the end of the shifted tie with Lobi Stars if they pick a home win.
