Amaravati, Feb 23 (PTI) The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday approved a scheme in the name of 'EBC Nestham' under which it would grant Rs 15,000 each to economically-backward women among upper castes.

The new scheme, which will be an addition to a similar scheme 'Cheyuta' for women belonging to SC, ST, BC, Kapu and minority communities launched last year, is expected to cost the government an extra Rs 900 crore per annum.

EBC Nestham would be included in the Budget for 2021-22 financial year for granting Rs 15,000 per annum for a period of three years to 'financially empower economically- backward women,' an official note said.

The scheme would benefit about six lakh EBC women, aged above 45 years and below 60, by enhancing their livelihood opportunities and living standards, it said.

A release from the Chief Minister's Office later said EBC Nestham would be launched in November this year for about six lakh women beneficiaries.

It, however, said Rs 670 crore would be allocated for the scheme per year. PTI DBV BN BN BN
