Anti-Pakistan Protests: Be Prepared, Will Take Islamabad Head on, Warn Gilgit Baltistan Leaders
Skardu, Nov 18: Massive anti-Pakistan protests are being held across Gilgit Baltistan against illegal taxation by the Pakistani government. All the small and big businesses were shut down on Saturday to protest against unfair taxes imposed on impoverished people by the Pakistan regime. “I urge people of Gilgit Baltistan living in Karachi, Quetta, Lahore and other parts of Pakistan, be prepared, we are going to take on Islamabad head on,” said a protester while addressing a gathering in Gilgit Baltistan.
Scores of small traders, businessmen, and residents of Gilgit Baltistan took to the streets and protested raising anti-Pakistan slogans. “We will not pay taxes,” the protesting traders declared. “We will carry on with the protests with same force and zeal until Pakistan withdraws notification of taxes,” a businessman in Gilgit Baltistan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

A protester said that an additional tax needs to be paid if people have more than five family members. “Will you pay taxes to Pakistan on chickens kept in your households? Will you pay taxes on cow kept at your house for milk?” Business Standard quoted him as saying.
The businessmen have alleged that the Supreme Court of Pakistan had declared the region as disputed territory and so, Islamabad has no right to impose taxes on them. Any kind of taxes is termed illegal and unacceptable, the protesters said.
Gilgit Baltistan people had earlier held a similar protest last month on October 22 across Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the region to mark ‘Black Day’. Massive protests were also reported from Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Gilgit, and Hajirah, a Zee News report said. The protested raised anti-Pakistan slogans and also demanded withdrawal of the Pakistan Army from the ‘disputed’ territory.
