Anti-CAA stir fails; Supreme Court dismisses review petition against Shaheen Bagh verdict

The Supreme Court has dismissed a review petition against its last year's verdict over the anti-CAA protest in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh and said that right to protest and express dissent comes with certain duties and cannot be held “anytime and everywhere”. The review petition filed by a group of 12 activists urged the apex court to reconsider its last year's ruling terming any protest held outside designated places as illegal. In its October 2020 judgment, the top court had said that occupying public places like Shaheen Bagh for protests is not acceptable and such a space cannot be occupied “indefinitely”.
