Shimla, Oct 7 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj on Wednesday tested positive for coronavirus infection, a health official said.
Bhardwaj is the third Himachal minister and tenth MLA in the 68-member state assembly to have contracted the infection.
The 68-year-old, four-time Shimla BJP MLA tested positive at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) here, the official added.
Meanwhile, Minister Bhardwaj said in a statement that he tested COVID-19-positive on Wednesday though he had quarantined himself at home since October 2 afternoon.
He said his elder son has tested COVID19 negative while the younger one has tested positive on October 5. He said there were some false reports in a section of the media about his elder son's test report.
Bhardwaj said the doctor had advised him to self-isolate after his younger son tested positive for COVID-19.
The doctor had also asked him to get tested in case some symptoms appear, he added.
He said his wife too tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and has been hospitalized.
The minister said he would be under home quarantine as he is not experiencing any complications.
'I was already isolated at home for the last five days. I will join the office to serve the society as soon as I recover from COVID-19,' he said.
Earlier, Power Minister Sukhram Chaudhary and Jal Shakti Minister Mahender Singh Thakur had tested positive for COVID-19. Both the ministers have recovered from the infection.
Power Minister Chaudhary and Doon MLA Paramjeet Singh had attended the monsoon session last month after their recovery.
Jal Shakti Minister Mahender Singh Thakur resumed his office work in state secretariat on September 21 after his recovery. He had tested positive on September 3. He could not attend the session which was held from September 7 to 18.
On Tuesday, BJP MLA Surender Shourie had said he has tested positive for COVID-19 on October 2.
Rohru Congress MLA Lal Brakta too had tested positive on September 26.
On September 22, Nachan BJP MLA Vinod Kumar Chauhan had tested COVID-positive. Sundernagar BJP MLA Rakesh Jamwal had tested positive on September 20, two days after the monsoon session of the assembly adjourned sine die.
On the first day of the session on September 7, BJP MLA from Indora, Reeta Devi, had tested positive. She had attended the session before her COVID-19 test was conducted.
Nalagarh Congress MLA Lakhwinder Rana too had tested positive on September six. PTI DJI RAX RAX
