Inturi Ravikiran, a political satirist on social media, was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police in Hyderabad in the wee hours today.
Police arrested Ravikiran from his rented accommodation in Hyderabad. It is believed that the police raided Ravikiran's house at Shamshabad at around 3.30 am and picked him up in their car without informing his family.
Ravikiran, who works as a techie and runs a Facebook page titled "Political punch", is known for his political satires.
Speaking to India Today, SP of Guntur (Rural) Narayan Naik said "Assembly Secretary Satyanarayan Rao approached the police against a social media post showing a nude lady with pictures of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and council building and derogatory remarks against the legislative assembly and legislative council."
Naik added, "We have registered a case under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act and under 292 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested the accused."
The page "Political Punch" has earlier morphed photographs of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and his family apart from various Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and displays satirical memes.
