Port Blair, May 2 (PTI) Andaman and Nicobar Islands COVID-19 tally rose to 6,046 as 97 more people tested positive for the infection while one new fatality pushed the coronavirus death toll in the union territory to 68, an official of the health department said on Sunday.
Of the 97 new COVID-19 cases, 85 were detected during contact tracing and 12 were airport arrivals, the official said.
All passengers arriving in Port Blair by flight from other places have to undergo the mandatory Rapid Antigen Test before they are allowed entry into the islands.
The Union Territory now has 205 active COVID-19 cases - 202 in South Andaman district and three in North and Middle Andaman district.
Seventy-two more COVID-19 patients were cured of the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,773, he said.
The union territory administration has so far tested 3,72,214 samples for COVID-19 and the test positivity rate is 1.62 per cent.
Altogether, 1,09,441 people have been inoculated in the archipelago, with 13,724 of them having received both doses of the COVID vaccine, the official added. PTI COR RG RG
