Srinagar, April 10: The Lok Sabha by-elections in Anantnag has been deferred to a later date, considering the unrest in Jammu & Kashmir. According to reports, the polls have been deferred to May 25. However, official confirmation from the Election Commission is awaited.
The election in Anantnag was postponed on the recommendations of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The decision was apparently made considering the dismal voter turnout in Srinagar Lok Sabha by-elections held on April 9. Apart from the record low voter turnout, 200 instances of violence was reported, which led to the death of 8 individuals in retaliatory action by security forces.
