Meet Sanjana George, The Only Indian Female Wrestler To Land A WWE Contract This Season
Pro-wrestling entertainment platform World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has signed Sanjana George as the only female out of its four latest recruits from the country.
The 26-year-old made the announcement via her Instagram page and is the latest Indian signing from WWE. George is the second female Indian wrestler to join the roster alongside Kavita Devi. She is already in Orlando, US, training with the WWE at its performance centre.
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter from Kottayam, Kerala has admitted that she has no prior professional wrestling experience.
"I have no prior experience in wrestling, so they are training me from scratch. It's a challenge, but I have the best coaches in the industry, and I'm getting better every day," said George.
George grew up watching WWE with her father. She was introduced to MMA at the age of 17. Her first WWE tryout was in 2019. Even though she didn't get selected initially, it was a necessary learning curve for the athlete. George eventually got the nod from WWE, and as things stand, she is at the Performance Center to begin an exciting chapter in her career.
"When I heard about it, I was very curious, signed up, and thought I'd give my best, and even if I don't get selected, it would be an experience for me. There were 3,000 applicants; it was a four-day tryout in Mumbai," revealed George.
The youngster says she dreams of raising India’s standards on the platform. "Very rarely do Indians make it to big platforms and actually do well there. I want to make my country proud. I want to share with the world how vast and beautiful India really is.”
“As I have been outside of Kerala for college and work a lot, I haven't been able to represent the state much in sports. But I'm hoping to do well and make everyone proud," George added.
