Honeypreet Insan, Adopted Daughter of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, May Get Life Imprisonment if Convicted in Panchkula Violence

Chandigarh, Mar 7: Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, may get life imprisonment if found guilty in connection with a sedition and criminal conspiracy case. Honeypreet Insan, also known as ‘Papa’s angel’, has been charged for allegedly conspiring and inciting violence in Panchkula following the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a rape case by local CBI court.

Honeypreet Insan alias Priyanka Taneja was produced before a session court in Panchkula on Tuesday. 22 persons including Honeypreet have been slapped sedition charges by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Haryana Police. According to the chargesheet, Honeypreet hatched the conspiracy to spread violence in Panchkula at the Dera headquarters with the 45-member management committee.

Honeypreet, who is currently in Ambala Central Jail, is booked under various sections including 121,121-A, 261, 145, 150, 151, 152, 153 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code(IPC). If the court finds her guilty under section 121A and section 120B of the IPC, Honeypreet can be convicted with life imprisonment.

After a hunt of over a month by the police, Honeypreet was arrested on October 3 from Zirakpur-Patiala road near Chandigarh along with another woman.

Last year on August 25, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of raping two female followers. Following the conviction, large-scale violence spread in Haryana’s Panchkula and Sirsa, leaving 38 people dead and another 264 injured. Earlier, Dera gang members revealed that Honeypreet Insan and Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh wanted to settle down in a foreign country and the Panchkula violence aimed at dislodging the Manohar Lal Khattar led government in Haryana.
