'Good Place' star Jameela Jamil calls out man who body-shamed her at the gym: 'I enjoy my curves'

Jameela Jamil is known for calling out those who promote what she deems unhealthy body image issues, whether it’s Kim Kardashian pushing appetite-suppressing lollipops or tabloids picking apart women’s beach bodies.

So woe to the body-shaming gym-goer who took it upon himself to offer the Good Place actress some pointers on how she could improve her figure after she finished her workout.

In a video posted to social media, the British star — who explained that she cycles at the gym to treat her anxiety — recounted the encounter that left her seeing red.

“He decided to tell me, without prompt, that he’s seen me around and he always thinks, ‘Ah, what a shame, she could look so amazing’ and there’s so many different things I could do to improve my body,” she shared.

“So, essentially, he walked up to me and body-shamed me in the middle of the gym,” she continued. “Don’t do that. Don’t walk up to someone and impose your belief of what you think they should look like onto them. Don’t do that to women, don’t do that to men, don’t do that to anyone, ever.”

She added that comments like this can put people off from exercising, for fear that they too will feel judged.

“I’m all right with the fact that I’m somewhat a memory foam woman,” Jamil said, gesturing to her arm. “I’m comfortable. I enjoy my body. I enjoy my curves. I’m also, by the way, a U.S. size 6 to 8, so if that’s how I’m being spoken to in a gym, you can imagine what people say to people who are larger than that.”

Fans reacted to Jamil’s post by sharing their own experiences with judgmental remarks about their appearance.
