As the Amnesty International has stopped all its operations in India, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a statement in regards to the same. Amnesty has cited witch-hunt by the government and had to let go of its staff when the Centre froze its bank accounts in India, under Foreign Exchange Management Act.
The MHA has stated that Amnesty will be treated like every other organization. According to MHA statement, multiple illegalities have been undertaken by Amnesty. Amnesty while calling out the Indian government, is not stating that how is it receiving foreign funds, without having permission for it. The ministry of Home Affairs has also added that the organization is trying to escape scrutiny and has violated FCRA norms.
