Amitabh Bachchan on Gurmehar Kaur row: Be ready for trolls and abuses on social media

Amitabh Bachchan recently spoke his mind on the Gurmehar Kaur controversy and said that if you are on social media, you should be ready for trolls and abuses.

Amitabh Bachchan was one of the first Bollywood personalities who became active on social media. First he began blogging on a regular basis. Then he got on Twitter to share his thoughts.

As such, getting trolled and abused on a daily basis is something that comes naturally to the National Award-winning actor.

Speaking on the same, at the trailer launch of his next film Sarkar 3, Amitabh said, "I think if you are on social media, you should be prepared for trolls and abuses. I enjoy it."

Amitabh Bachchan went on to add that he engages with his fans and followers on Twitter and Facebook frequently. He also called them their 'extended family'.

Bachchan's comments come at a time when Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of martyred soldier Captain Manjeet Singh, has received rape threats and has been accused of being an anti-national for some comments she made in regard to the recent violence at Ramjas College. In addition to that, a video featuring her where she made a statement urging for India-Pakistan peace did not go down well with a certain political section.

When asked about his opinions on Gurmehar Kaur, Bachchan said, "My opinion on the matter is personal and if I share it with you, it will become public."

Gurmehar Kaur later withdrew from her campaign against the alleged perpetrators of the Ramjas College violence, ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) - the student wing of the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh).

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan will soon be seen in Sarkar 3, due to release on April 7 this year.
