Albirex Niigata and Brunei DPMM can create history in Singapore Cup final

History will be created on local soil for either one of these foreign teams, as DPMM FC and Albirex go head to head in the Singapore Cup final

This season’s Singapore Cup final will be another kick in the teeth for Singapore football after Albirex Niigata won the SPL (Singapore Premier League), as it will see two foreign teams compete for the trophy at the Jalan Besar stadium.

Albirex will take on Brunei DPMM FC and the Japanese side will have the chance of completing a clean sweep of all domestic trophies for the third straight season, having also won the Community Shield, if they can beat their opponents. Moreover, Albirex can add an unprecedented fourth straight RHB Singapore Cup if they do indeed win.

Albirex will be the favourites entering the game as they truly have established themselves as a force in Singapore football. However they can’t take their opponents too lightly.

DPMM have been unbeaten for the last ten games and showed immense mental strength to douse the flames of Balestier Khalsa’s fieryperformance in the semi-final by coming from behind to equalise twice. Additionally, they will be buoyed further by the chance of wanting to create history by winning their first Singapore Cup. All of this makes for an interesting showdown between the two sides.
