Akwa United’s Aniefiok Godspower has no emotion for ex-club, Kano Pillars ahead of Uyo duel

The newly-formed team were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in their quarter final match against the Promise Keepers

Akwa United’s Aniefiok Godspower has asserted that he would be rooting for the Promise Keepers when they face Kano Pillars ahead of the Nigeria Professional Football League Group B cracker at the Nest of Champions Stadium, Uyo.

Godspower made his name with the Promise Keepers but crossed over to Kano Pillars shortly after the 2015 Federation Cup title which he helped his state team to win at the expense of Lobi Stars in Lagos and ahead of the big game on Sunday in Uyo the midfielder affirmed that he will be on the prowl to ensure Akwa United pip his ex-team to the three points to brighten their chances of finishing the season in the top three.

“This is a big game for us and we know the importance of every match at this point of the season. Kano Pillars is a good side and they play well too but we are mentally and physically ready for the crucial game,” Godspower told the club media.

“We don’t have to leave anything to chance, we have a lot of quality and talent in Akwa United, so we will be approaching the game with winning mentality. The first leg ended 1-1 in Kano but I’m optimistic that we will get all three points here at the Nest of Champions.

“I will not be emotional in any way when I face my former team because I played for Akwa United before joining Pillars. Right now, my heart is with Akwa United and I will do everything to help my state team to win this game.”

Akwa United are occupying top spot in the NPFL Group B with 25 points from 14 games albeit on goals difference with El Kanemi Warriors also on the same number of points (25) and the Promise Keepers are billed to slug it out with fourth-placed Kano Pillars who are only two points adrift of the top spot with 23 points from 14 games.
