Akshay says working with Raveena was an honour. What went wrong between the ex-lovers

Akshay Kumar is all praise for his ex-lover Raveena Tandon.

They set the screen on fire back in 1994. Clad in a yellow saree and dancing to Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Raveena Tandon became an overnight sensation. And her crackling chemistry with co-actor Akshay Kumar raised temperatures. If the senusality in Tip Tip Barsa Paani grabbed eyeballs, another hit number Tu Chiz Badi Hai Mast Mast from Mohra became the talk of the town.

And 23 years later, the chartbuster has got a makeover in a new film Machine. During the song launch, Akshay, who gave a number of hits with Raveena back in the 90s, got nostalgic about Bollywood's Mast Mast girl. He said, "It was a great honour working with her. We have done so many films together. We have good songs. I still remember Tip Tip Barsa is my favourite song. It is an amazing song. We have done 4-5 films together, so it has been an honour."

While Akshay's cordial relationship with ex-girlfriend Shilpa Shetty is no news, this is for the first time that Khiladi Kumar has openly praised Raveena post their ugly break-up during the end of 90s.

Akshay and Raveena's relationship status in the 90s is a known fact. But after dating for a few years and secretly getting engaged, Raveena put an end to the charade.

How it all began

Buzz has it that Akshay and Raveena's love blossomed on the sets of their 1994 film Mohra, and soon enough the rumours of their affair made way to juicy tabloids. But in a joint interview later, Akshay and Raveena revealed that it was not love at first sight for them. The two started off as friends when they did a lot of shows together and it was only in 1995 that they began dating.

Akshay's only condition to marry Raveena

If reports are to be believed, Akshay and Raveena were madly in love with each other. And Raveena was keen to take the relationship to the next level. But Akshay had one condition. He told Raveena that he prefers a stay-at-home wife. Raveena in an interview to Stardust in 1999 revealed that Akshay said he will marry her the day she will finish her last shoot.

Secret engagement

While Akshay waited for Raveena to finish her pending projects, the two secretly got engaged in a mandir. Buzz has it that Akshay decided to keep this piece of news under the wraps for the fear of losing his female fans.

When all hell broke loose

It was during the shooting of 1996 film Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi that the news of Akshay getting close to co-actor Rekha started doing the rounds. Tabliods were abuzz with the rumours of Akshay and Rekha's closeness. Soon the cracks between Raveena and Akshay's relationship started emerging, and reports say that it was during this time that Akshay started to get close to Shilpa Shetty with whom he began shooting for a film.

Raveena's final call

By this time, Raveena, who was tired of Akshay's flamboyant nature, decided to put an end to things. Post the break-up, Raveena said in an interview that loyalty meant everything to her. In a sensational interview in July 1999, Raveena said that Akshay proposes to every girl, and the speed at which he is going, he will soon have to address the parents of three-fourth of girls in Mumbai as 'Mom and Dad'.
