When met by Goal during their final training session of Friday, Malaysia's teenage star Akhyar Rashid remarked that there are ways for them to beat their 2018 AFF Championship semi-final opponents Thailand.

He provided an example of aspects of Thailand's game that can be exploited, when they face off in the first leg encounter at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday.

"Thailand are very good side, but this time around their gameplay is different. They don't press intensely and prefer to sit back and wait for their opponents to commit a mistake, to launch into a counter-attack," remarked the Kedah player.

"That's why the coach (Tan Cheng Hoe) has been emphasising the need for us to cut down on errors, and to always backtrack and press after losing possession."

He is also hoping that the home fans will provide them with another edge; by chanting along with the Ultras Malaya throughout the match.

At a sold out Bukit Jalil last week, the ultras put on a strong and vocal support to help the Harimau Malaya edge Myanmar 3-0 in their last Group A match, and advance to the semis.

"Their support has helped us immensely, by making things harder mentally for the opponents. But Thailand are an experienced side, they know how to block out this sort of pressure.

"I ask the fans to cheer us on as best as they can; do it like the ultras do, by singing and chanting throughout the match," said the 19-year old forward.
