Aircel Files For Bankruptcy; Cites Increased Losses, Intense Competition, Unsustainable Debt
Mumbai, November 22: To counter Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio’s disruptive offers, telecom operator Aircel launched its new tariffs in its Kolkata circle. Aircel aims to strengthen its network coverage to live up to the needs of its prepaid customers. The new tariff plans start at Rs 93 which offers on local and STD voice calls, 3G data and local as well as national SMSes in the Kolkata circle. Aircel Kolkata Circle head Amitabh Akhouri said new tariff plans will help the company jack up its customer base and average revenue per user (ARPU).
Under its Rs 93 plan, Aircel is offering new subscribers with local and STD voice calls at 20 paisa per minute. It is also offering customers with data usage of 250MB per month, and 50 local and national SMS for 365 days. Moreover, users will also get a talk time of Rs 70 under this plan. If a customer is wishing to opt for unlimited local and STD calls, Airtel has come up with two plans. The Rs 175 come for a validity of 30 days while the Rs 349 plan comes for 84 days. In addition to unlimited voice calls, both the packs have 1GB 3G/2G data access per day and 100 local and national SMS for 30 days.
Under the new Rs 94 plan, existing customers will be eligible to get all local and STD calls at 20 paisa per minute. The users will also get 1,400 local and national SMS for 365 days. As per reports, the existing subscribers can recharge their prepaid connections with Rs 148 plan to get 2GB 3G/2G data in addition to 100 local and national SMS and voice for 250 minutes per day with a maximum limit of 1,000 minutes for 28 days. “We will continue to strengthen our 3G network in the city. Currently, our coverage is about 90 per cent but the plan is for complete coverage, and the same has nothing to do with some negative news and rumours floating around,” Akhouri was quoted by PTI. Akhouri claimed that the company was evaluating its options and working on launching 4G services in the market.
