(Eds: Adding details) Ahmedabad, Sep 12 (PTI) The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose by 175 to 33,553 on Saturday, Gujarat health department said.
With three fatalities, the toll in the district went up to 1,770, it said.
A total of 151 patients were discharged in the day after treatment, taking the number of recoveries to 27,557.
Of the 175 new cases, Ahmedabad city added 153 patients while 22 cases were reported from rural areas, the department said.
All three deaths were reported from the city.
Meanwhile, amid the concern over shortage of medical oxygen in hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in Ahmedabad, the city civic body has appointed two nodal officers of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board for ensuring coordination.
They would ensure that hospitals do not face shortage of medical oxygen in view of the growing number of active COVID-19 patients, it said.
As per the COVID-19 bulletin released by the municipal corporation, the city has 3,695 active cases.
Among seven zones in the city, the north west zone has the highest number of 657 active cases, followed by the west zone with 635 cases, and south-west zone with 612 cases.
In its continuing effort to detect COVID-19 cases amongrailway passengers arriving here, the civic body tested 1,713 passengers of three trains, including a Rajdhani Express, at the station, out of whom 31 tested positive for the infection, it said. PTI KA PD NSK NSK
