Ahmedabad, Nov 12 (PTI) Ahmedabad recorded 199 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the highest for a district in Gujarat on Thursday, while 160 patients recovered from the infection, said the state Health Department.
With this, Ahmedabad district's tally of positive cases rose to 44,690, said a release by the department.
Of the fresh cases, 181 were recorded in the city and 18 in the rural parts of the district, said the release.
Three patients died due to the infection, taking the death toll in the district to 1,944, it said.
The release said 160 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, taking the recovery tally to 39,452.
Meanwhile, alarmed by long queues outside testing centres set up in different parts of the city, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has urged people to avoid coming to booths 'just out of curiosity to get themselves tested'.
To stop people from revisiting centres for testing without having any COVID-19-related symptoms, the AMC, in a release, said its staff will apply semi-permanent ink on fingers of those who come for rapid antigen test at these centres to curb crowd. PTI PJT PD RSY RSY
