According to a report in The Sun, Johnson was playing for Manchester City in 2010 when, with little help from former teammate Micah Richards, he bid £12k (Rs 10.26L) for a night with Price during a charity auction at Cheshire in 2010. The British tabloid also claimed that Johnson not only spent a night with Price but also got the prize of going out on a dinner with Price.

Johnson played 73 games across all competitions for Man City in his two years at the club (2010-2012) before turning-out for Sunderland for four seasons. He played 122 times for The Saints. He came through the ranks at Middlesbrough and represented Watford and Leeds United before his big move to City.
