Active COVID-19 cases shoot past 20,000 mark after 5 months

Amaravati, Apr 11 (PTI): The number of active coronavirus cases shot past the 20,000 mark to 20,954 after precisely five months as 3,495 fresh positives were reported, another high after October 24, in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

The state also recorded 1,198 recoveries and nine more COVID-19 deaths in 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday, a health department bulletin said.

The overall infection positivity rate climbed to six per cent after 1.54 crore sample tests turned out 9,25,401 total positives so far.

The total recoveries increased to 8,97,147 and toll to 7,300, the bulletin said.

Chittoor district once again topped the chart with 719 fresh cases in a day with Guntur coming behind with 501, crossing a gross of 82,000 cases so far.

SPS Nellore district went past the 65,000 mark, adding 190 cases anew, Kurnool crossed 63,000 with the addition of 191 and Srikakulam shot past 48,000, reporting 293 new cases in a day.

Visakhapatnam added 405, Krishna 306, Prakasam 215, Anantapuramu 209, Vizianagaram 193 and Kadapa 192 new cases.

The two Godavari districts, East and West, reported 41 and 40 new cases respectively.

Chittoor district had four fresh COVID-19 fatalities in a day while Guntur, Kurnool, SPS Nellore, Prakasam and Srikakulam accounted for one each. PTI DBV APR ADMINISTRATOR APR ADMINISTRATOR
