Mumbai, July 15: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation in a recent move to decongest Mumbai city has launched a crackdown on illegally parked vehicles in the city. The BMC is penalising such vehicles which are parked in unauthorised parking lots, roads and populated public areas. However, a Mumbai Mirror report stated that leaders BMC's ruling party, Shiv Sena, including Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray and Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar have not paid up the fines imposed on their vehicles.
Mahadeshwar said that he has no knowledge of outstanding fines. He said that if rules are broken then fines must be paid. Reacting to the development, Thackeray said that he had not received any notification from the traffic officials in the last two years. According to Mumbai Mirror, as per traffic police records, challans of more than Rs 7,200 in fines were generated for vehicles used by Yuva Sena chief. The fines were levelled for speeding seven times and halting ahead of the white line on traffic signal once. While Mahadeshwar's vehicles have four e-challans for speeding, totalling to Rs 4,000. The first challan for Thackeray's vehicle dates back to December 19, 2016, which is not yet paid. The fine was for going ahead of the white line. For mayor's vehicle, the first challan was issued on April 3, last year. The recent challan, dated May 26 this year, is also unpaid.
