Aadhaar Made Mandatory to Get Liquor at Pubs in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, September 21: In order to make sure minors are kept miles away from alcohol, people will have to produce their Aadhaar card in pubs in order to justify their age. Such orders from The prohibition and excise department of Telangana came after a murder investigation of a minor disclosed that she often used to visit a pub, reported India Today.
The 17-year-old deceased was served alcohol at a hotel based in the city, the investigation of cops further revealed.
Now, with the fresh orders, the pub owners must ask for Aadhaar card from their customers and those below the age of 21 years will be shown the exit gate. R V Chandravadan, the Excise Commissioner, asked all the pub owners in the city to serve alcohol in a limited quantity to their customers to avoid unexpected incidents. Also, to make sure driving under the influence of alcohol is prevented, Chandravadan’ s team has tied up with cab services like Ola and Uber that can safely drop the pub goers home.
Besides this, the pub owners were directed to maintain a record of their customers. With this move, The prohibition and excise department feels that those believed to be involved in drug racket can easily be traced.
The government has also instructed pub and bar managers to maintain a separate register with details of their clients. Besides preventing entry of under-age visitors at the pubs, the move could also help the excise department track movement of those it suspects of being involved in drug rackets.
The pubs and hotels in the city were earlier warned by the excise department for the consumption of drugs within their boundaries.
