975 new coronavirus cases, six deaths in Gujarat

(Eds: Adding details) Ahmedabad, Nov 4 (PTI) The tally of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 1,76,608 with 975 fresh cases being reported on Wednesday, the state health department said.

With six fatalities, including three in Ahmedabad, two in Surat and one in Vadodara, the state's COVID-19 death toll went up to 3,740, it said.

At the same time, the number of recoveries outnumbered new cases, with 1,022 patients getting discharged in the day, the department said.

Total number of recovered cases in Gujarat increased to 1,60,470 which pushed up the state's recovery rate to 90.86 per cent.

The state is now left with 12,398 active cases.

A total of 51,572 tests were conducted for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall number of samples tested so far to 62,62,122, the department said.

At 214, Surat reported the highest number of new cases in the state in the day, followed by Ahmedabad (174) and Vadodara (111).

Rajkot reported 85 new cases, Gandhinagar 39, Mehsana 32, Banaskantha 30, Jamnagar 27, Patan 25, Junagadh 20, Sabarkantha 19, Morbi and Surendranagar 18 each, Bhavnagar 17, Narmada 15, Anand 13, etc.

In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the case tally rose to 3,236 with four new infections, including one each in Daman and Diu and two in Dadra Nagar Haveli, officials said.

With two more patients being discharged in the day, the count of recoveries in the UT rose to 3,202, they said.
