74 fresh COVID-19 cases in Arunachal; count rises to 1484

Itanagar, Jul 31 (PTI) Seventy-four more people, including five security personnel, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Arunachal Pradesh, taking the state's tally to 1,484, a Health Department official said on Friday.

Of the fresh cases, 21 were reported from the Capital Complex region, 17 from Changlang district, 10 from Lower Subansiri, nine from Namsai, seven from Tawang, four from Papum Pare and one each from East Kameng, East Siang, Lohit, Dibang Valley, Siang and Tirap, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said.

'Two Assam Rifles jawans, two policemen and a CRPF staffer are among the fresh patients. Eight Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) personnel have also been diagnosed with COVID- 19,' he said.

All, barring seven, are asymptomatic and have been shifted to COVID Care Centres, Jampa said.

'Two policemen were found positive for coronavirus in Papum Pare district, while the CRPF staffer was detected in Changlang,' he said.

According to him, two Assam Rifles personnel have been diagnosed with the infection in Changlang and Tirap.

'All the seven fresh patients from Tawang are BRTF employees and they were in a quarantine centre. One more from the task force is from Lohit district,' Jampa said.

A total of 150 patients were discharged from various hospitals on Thursday, he said.

Arunachal Pradesh now has 654 active cases, while 827 people have recovered from the disease and three died of it.

The Capital Complex region, comprising Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas, has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases at 272, followed by Changlang (82), Papum Pare (49), Tirap (43), Tawang (29), Namsai (28), West Siang (27), East Siang (25) and East Kameng (23), the official said.

Arunachal Pradesh witnessed a spurt in coronavirus cases after the residents of the state started returning from other parts of the country during the nationwide lockdown.

Jampa said 1,293 people have tested positive for the infection since July 1.

A total of 77,630 samples have been tested for the disease, he said.

Arunachal Pradesh reported its first COVID-19 case on April 2 and the patient recovered from the disease on April 16. The state registered its second case on May 24. PTI UPL BDC BDC
