Holby City spoilers follow.

Next week's final (for now) Holby City episode sees Ric's fate lie firmly in Guy's hands, while Cameron gives Nicky the runaround and Essie and Sacha affirm their love.

Here are the seven biggest moments to watch out for...

1. Ric's fate lies in Guy's hands

Having found Ric unconscious in theatre, a drunk and vengeful Guy capitalises on this unexpected opportunity in next week's jaw-dropping scenes. However, Guy puts his plan into action, he faces unsurprising scrutiny from a confused Louis, who infuriates him by questioning what's going on.

Having unjustifiably sent Louis on his way, Guy believes the coast is now clear to continue, but will anyone realise what's going on before it's too late?

2. Donna gets suspicious

After taking over from Louis in theatre, Donna also grows suspicious of Guy's motives.

Guy does his best to distract but his efforts are futile as she becomes concerned that there is something iffy going on.

When Ric goes into cardiac arrest, Donna is horrified when Guy stands back and insists it's all over. And when she suspects Guy's been drinking, Donna realises she needs to take action – immediately. But can she save Ric before it's too late?

3. Fletch plays matchmaker

Determined to put things right for an increasingly weak Essie, Fletch goes out of his way to bring her and Sacha back together.

Paying Essie a visit, Fletch urges her to see that Sacha only acted in the way he did because of his love for her. He also implores Sacha not to waste any more of the precious time he has left with Essie, but will Fletch's efforts pay off?

4. Sacha vows to put things right

Encouraged by Fletch, Sacha takes steps to get back on track with Essie – by tracking Frankie down and ensuring she'll be able to reunite with baby Isla.

Applying total, unabridged honesty, Sacha explains to Essie how terrified he is about existing in a world without her and is delighted when she forgives him.

5. Nicky is left devastated

After getting passionate with Cameron in the on-call room, Nicky is mortified when he dismisses her immediately afterwards.

Keen to make things more official, Nicky tentatively suggests a drink after work, only to be left hurt when Cameron insists they cool it down – with immediate effect.

Realising she needs to move on, Nicky later agrees to a date with a smitten Louis, but Cameron has a plan of his own...

6. Cameron plays Chloe and Nicky

After rejecting Nicky, Cameron tries his luck with former girlfriend Chloe – jealous that she is back on the dating scene.

However, when Chloe insists that they are never (ever) getting back together, Cameron turns back to Nicky and suggests they make a go of it after all.

Nicky's head is left spinning by Cameron's fickle affections, but will she be fooled by him? Or will she give romance with Louis a chance?

7. Essie has a grand wedding plan

Having made amends with Sacha, Essie surprises him by revealing her wedding plans. Essie tells Sacha she wants to marry him right away – determined not to waste any more time.

Overwhelmed, Sacha frantically rushes around getting everything sorted, but will he and Essie get their happy ever after?

Holby City airs these scenes on Tuesday, August 11. The show is then taking another extended break until later in the year, after running out of regular episodes to screen due to the coronavirus pandemic.
