50-year-old man dies after beam of under-construction bridge collapses on him

New Delhi, Apr 6 (PTI) A 50-year-old man died after a cement-cum-iron girder installed between two pillars of an under-construction bridge fell on four trucks parked nearby, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place in west Delhi's Punjabi Bagh area on Monday night, when the victim, identified as Ram Bahadur, was sleeping in one of the trucks, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Prashant Gautam said, adding he was crushed to death in the incident.

A case has been registered against unknown persons under sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and an investigation is underway, he said.

Bahadur hailed from Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh and was residing in Ashoka Park area here. He used to work as a watchman, guarding trucks at night, the police said.

The fire department said it received a call about the incident at 8.48 am on Tuesday, and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

A disaster management team, along with police and CAT ambulance, reached the spot and the body was pulled out from the debris. PTI AMP DIV DIV
