T20 is the shortest format of cricket and is considered as the most entertaining by many fans across the world due the hard-hitting by batsmen and the fast pace of the game.

Domestic T20 leagues such as the Caribbean Premier League, the Indian Premier League, the Pakistan Super League, and the Big Bash League are widely followed - not only by fans in the home country but all across the world due to the presence of players of multiple nationalities.

There have been many times teams have made totals of 200+ in these domestic leagues due to the sheer amount of matches. However, there are still only a limited number of times national teams have crossed the 200 run mark in International matches.

Bowlers have also become adept at stopping the free flow of runs and have introduced many variations making it ever so difficult for the opposition team to achieve a total of over 200.

There have been only 72 times since the inception of T20Is that a team has managed a total of greater than 200.

In this article, we do a countdown of the top 5 teams which have the most 200+ totals in T20Is.

Note: This list does NOT include the times when a team ended up making EXACTLY 200 runs.

#5 England (5 times)

English players during the ICC World T20 in 2016

England have scored a total of 200+ 5 times. However, they are also the team to concede a score of over 200 - 10 times. The first time England scored over 200 was against South Africa in Johannesburg on 13th November 2009.

Eoin Morgan's 85 and Paul Collingwood's quickfire 57 had led the team to a total of 202/6. It was an intense match and England won by merely 1 run due to D/L method when South Africa were asked to chase 129 runs in 13 overs and they managed 127.

The last time the English team managed such a high score was against Australia in Birmingham. Jos Buttler's 61, Alex Hales' 49, and Jason Roy's 44 helped the team to a total of 221.

Australia gave a tough fight in response but were eventually bowled out for 193. England are also the only team to score a total of exactly 200 twice. They scored the round figure against India in 2007 and against Australia in 2014. They are currently ranked 3rd in T20Is as per the ICC Rankings.

#4 New Zealand, West Indies, and Pakistan (6 times)

the highest ranked T20I side

All these 3 teams have managed to put up a total in excess of 200 exactly 6 times each.

Pakistan posted their highest ever T20I score of 205 this year against West Indies on 2nd April 2018 in Karachi. In fact, Pakistan have posted 200+ totals 4 times in 2018 alone. No wonder they are currently the top-ranked T20I side as per ICC with a rating of 138.

With a brilliant century from Evin Lewis and quickfire 79 off 33 from Charles, West Indies scored 245 in 20 overs against India on August 27, 2016. This is their highest ever T20 total but it can also be regarded as one of the most nail-biting T20 Internationals of all time.

The Men in Blue ended up scoring 244 runs with a century from KL Rahul and fifty from Rohit Sharma - losing the aforementioned match by merely 1 run. It was indeed an exhilarating contest and the spectators who witnessed it felt each delivery to be nerve-wracking.

New Zealand have also managed to achieve a score of over 200 on 6 occasions. The Black Caps scored 243 on two occasions. The first one was against West Indies on 3rd January 2018 against West Indies and they ended up winning the match comfortably.

However, they lost to Australia on 16th February 2018 despite making a high score of 243. This remains the highest successful run chase in T20 International history.

#3 Sri Lanka (7 times)

The Lions have slipped in T20I rankings over the years

Sri Lanka have scored more than 200 runs 7 times. The Lions have also conceded more than 200 runs on 4 occasions.

The Islanders made a total of 260 (the 2nd highest T20I score till date) against Kenya during an ICC World Twenty20 match. In response, Kenya could only manage 88 and were bowled out in 19.3 overs. Sri Lanka won the match by 172 runs and it remains the highest margin of victory (by runs) in an International T20 match.

The last time The Lions managed such a high total was against Bangladesh on 10th March 2018. They put up 214 runs on board for the loss of 6 wickets. Perera and Mendis both hit quickfire half-centuries.

However, they ended up losing the match as The Tigers chased the total down in 19.4 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim hit an unbeaten 72 in 35 balls and was named the Man of the Match. This is the 4th highest run chase by a team in T20 Internationals.

Sri Lanka are currently ranked 9th in T20Is as per the ICC Rankings.

#2 South Africa (10 times)

David Miller holds the record (joint) for scoring the fastest T20I century.

South Africa's highest ever total in T20Is is of 241/6. This was made way back on 15th November 2018 - against England at Centurion. The Proteas won the match with ease. Loots Bosman, who scored 94 off 45 deliveries, was named the Man of the Match for his blistering display with the bat.

The last time South Africa put up a mammoth total of over 200 was against Bangladesh. They made 224/4 on 29th October 2017 at Potchefstroom and defeated The Tigers by 83 runs. David Miller scored a century in just 35 balls in this encounter and set the record for the fastest T20 International century.

Although South Africa have scored in excess of 200 on 10 occasions, they have also conceded scores of 200+ 7 times. The Proteas are currently ranked 5th in T20Is as per the ICC Rankings.

#1 India and Australia (11 times)

The Aussies are a force to reckon with in any format of cricket

The Men in Blue, as well as the Aussies, have managed to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring 200+ runs 11 times each.

The first time India scored over 200 in T20 Internationals was against England during the 2007 ICC World Twenty20 (now known as the ICC T20 World Cup). India put up a total of 218/4 and England gave a tough fight and scored 200/6 in response. No one will forget Yuvraj Singh's special innings in this match as he smashed 50 off just 12 balls and also hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over. It was a memorable match indeed.

The maximum score achieved by the Indian team is of 260/5. This total was achieved against Sri Lanka on December 22, 2017. The world witnessed another special knock as Rohit Sharma hit a century off just 35 balls (joint fastest in T20Is) and ended up with a score of 118 off 43 balls. In response, the Lankans could only manage 172 runs and were bowled out in 17.2 overs.

The last time India managed to score over 200 was against England. The Men in Blue chased a total of 198 and made 201/3 in 18.4 overs on 28th July 2018. Rohit Sharma, who smashed 100 off 56, was again the hero on the day. India are currently ranked 2nd in T20Is as per the ICC Rankings.

Australia have also achieved this feat 11 times. The Aussies scored 263/3 against Sri Lanka on 6th September 2016. The match saw Glenn Maxwell scoring an unbeaten 145 in just 65 balls. The total remains the highest T20I team total till date.

The last time the Men in Yellow managed to score over 200 was against Zimbabwe on 3rd July 2018, when they scored 229 in their quota of 20 overs with Aaron Finch scoring 172 in 76 balls.

Finch was just unstoppable that day and his knock of 172 is the highest individual score by a batsman in T20 Internationals. The Aussies are currently ranked 4th in T20Is as per the ICC Rankings.

Besides the aforementioned teams, Ireland have managed to score in excess of 200 runs 4 times while Afghanistan managed to reach the feat thrice.
