Bhubaneswar, Apr 2 (PTI) Odisha's COVID-19 tally surged to 3,41,772 on Friday as 461 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said.
Of the new cases registered in 24 of the state's 30 districts, 272 were reported in quarantine centres, while the remaining infections were detected during contact tracing, he said.
Nuapada district registered the highest number of new cases at 86, followed by Khurda (69), Sundergarh (62) and Kalahandi (36), the official said.
The state's coronavirus death toll remained unchanged at 1,921 as no fresh fatality was reported since March 30.
Fifty-three coronavirus patients have died to date due to comorbidities, he said.
The state now has 2,586 active cases, while 3,37,212 patients have recovered from the disease so far.
For the first time this year, the number of active cases crossed the 2,500-mark on Friday.
The state has thus far tested over 91.03 lakh samples for COVID-19, including 30,716 on Thursday.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urged people to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines and get vaccinated when their turn comes.
In view of a surge in coronavirus cases, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed additional restrictions on Good Friday celebrations.
It has directed church authorities to ensure that a maximum of only 50 people congregate at a time inside the places of worship with strict adherence to safety protocols.
