42 new COVID-19 cases in Andamans, tally rises to 5,569

Port Blair, Apr 24 (PTI) The COVID-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 5,569 as 42 more people tested positive for the infection, a health department official said on Saturday.

Thirty-four new COVID-19 cases in the union territory were detected during contact tracing while eight were airport arrivals, the official said.

Passengers arriving by flight from other places have to take Rapid Antigen Test at the airport here.

The archipelago now has 146 active COVID-19 cases with 138 patients in South Andaman district and eight in North and Middle Andaman district. The Nicobar district has no active COVID-19 case at present, he said.

Forty-nine more people have been cured of the disease, taking the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the union territory to 5,358.

The COVID-19 death toll remained at 65 as no fresh fatality was reported in the last 24 hours, he said.

The administration has so far tested over 3,60,595 samples for COVID-19. The test positivity rate is 1.55 per cent, he said.

More than 97,00 people have been vaccinated in the union territory so far, the official added. PTI COR RG RG
