49 Dead, 20 Injured: 10 Things We Know About NZ Terror Attack

On Friday, 15 March morning, two terror attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand left at least 49 people dead and at least 20 injured when shooters opened fire at two mosques while morning prayers were taking place.

Here are ten things we know about the two attacks that rocked New Zealand.

1. Death toll in the mosque attacks has increased to 49, while at least 20 others have been injured, New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush said.

2. Bush said earlier on Friday that the police has arrested four people, including one woman. One of the arrested is an Australian citizen, said the Australian prime minister.

3. The New Zealand police said they are not aware of other suspects beyond the four arrested after the mosque shootings but cannot be certain.

4. The prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern said this was one of the darkest days for the country.

5. One of the shooters has been identified as Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian white male who has left behind a manifesto.

6. The New Zealand police commissioner also said police have defused a number of improvised explosive devices found on vehicles after the mosque shootings.

7. Police have warned people to avoid mosques anywhere in New Zealand following two shootings with multiple fatalities at two mosques in Christchurch. The police said that all mosques have been asked to shut their doors till further notice.

8. Indonesia's foreign minister says six Indonesians were at the Al Noor Mosque in New Zealand when a shooting occurred and three of them escaped. Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said, "We are looking for three other Indonesian citizens."

9. An international cricket match between New Zealand and Bangladesh has been cancelled after players from the Bangladesh team narrowly avoided being in the mass shooting at a mosque.

10. Witnesses recounted the horror of the attacks, saying that they heard dozens of shots, people running from the mosque in terror and dead people everywhere.
