Port Blair, May 14 (PTI) The COVID-19 caseload in Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 6,510 as 40 more people tested positive for the disease in the Union Territory, a health department official said on Friday.
Thirty-nine new cases were detected during contact tracing and one fresh patient has a travel history, he said.
The death toll rose to 83 as two more persons succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, the official said.
At least 38 people were cured of the disease during the period, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 6,213.
The Union Territory now has 214 active cases.
Altogether, 1,16,586 people have been inoculated in the archipelago with 16,917 of them having received both doses of vaccine, he said.
The Andaman and Nicobar administration has conducted 3,78,462 sample tests for COVID-19 so far, and the positivity rate stands at 1.72 per cent. PTI COR BDC BDC
