38 killed in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi after bus slides into the canal

In an accident in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district on Tuesday, at least 38 people, including several women, were killed when a bus carrying about 54 passengers plunged into a canal after the driver lost control. After the bus dropped off a bridge into a canal near Patna village in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district on Tuesday morning, several passengers remained missing.

At least seven people swam to safety after the bus landed in the canal near the village of Patna, about 80 km from the Sidhi district headquarters, about 8:30 a.m., Inspector General (Rewa zone) Joga said. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has become aware of the matter and has spoken to the collector of the district asking him to speed up rescue and relief activities. Shivraj Singh Chouhan also declared Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to the kin of the deceased.
