Volkswagen, a popular German auto brand will be marking its official entry into the SUV segment with the launch of new Volkswagen Tiguan SUV today in India. Post official unveiling at 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the German automaker showcased the SUV at Delhi Auto Expo last year. The company commenced the production for the new Volkswagen Tiguan SUV at its Aurangabad plant in March 2017. This Toyota Fortuner rival has been spied couple of times ahead of its official launch in India. With the increasing demand for the SUVs in the domestic market, the German brand too aims to tap the space with its latest entrant – Tiguan SUV. The company has already started taking pre-orders for the all-new SUV with token amount of INR 1 lakh. To be offered in two variants, the new base variant is expected to carry a price tag of INR 24 lakh while the top end model could be priced at INR 30 lakh (All prices Ex-showroom). As per the leaked details, the company will introduce the new generation Tiguan SUV in two variants – Comfortline and Highline. The Highline variant will be more feature and equipment rich in comparison to that of Comfortline variant. In terms of safety, the SUV will be equipped with 6-airbags, ABS, ESC, ASR, EDL, EDTC, reverse parking camera, self sealing tyres, ISOFIX mounts, tyre pressure monitoring system, rain sensor, park distance control-front and rear, automatic headlamp leveler, rear fog lamps, front fog lamps with cornering lights, front and rear disc brakes and much more. The equipment list on the Tiguan SUV will comprise of panaromic sunroof, leather upholstery, 3-zone air conditioning with rear controls, leather wrapped steering wheel, auto dimming IRVM, ambient lighting, adjustable lumbar support for driver’s seat, heat insulated windshield, electrically adjustable front seats, 8-inch infotainment system, auto hold, paddle shift, Eco drive function, drive alert system, hill descent control, 8-speakers and much more. Under the hood, the SUV will be powered by a 2.0 liter diesel engine that can develop 143 PS of max power against the peak torque of 330 Nm and comes mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox that will transmit power to all the four wheel via 4Motion system. Expected to be priced in the range of INR 24 lakh to INR 30 lakh (ex-showroom), the all new Tiguan SUV will be pitted against the likes of the Toyota Forturner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour and the upcoming Jeep Compass.
